Founded in 1987 by Steve Rocco alongside freestyle pioneer Rodney Mullen, World Industries is one of the most disruptive and historically critical brands in skateboarding. Established during an era dominated by large, corporate-run vert operations, World Industries sparked a complete industry shift as one of the very first major companies owned and operated entirely by professional skateboarders. By centering on street skateboarding, controversial marketing, and total creative freedom, the brand dismantled the old guard and laid the operational blueprint for modern skater-owned enterprises.

World Industries quickly became ground zero for the technical street boom of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Beyond serving as an incubator for future iconic sister brands like Blind, 101, and Plan B, the company was the proving ground for revolutionary talent and progression. Riders like Rodney Mullen, Mike Vallely, Daewon Song, Kareem Campbell, and Chico Brenes helped define street skating's technical foundation, introducing foundational flip tricks, modern nose/tail designs, and symmetrical deck shapes that standardized the modern popsicle silhouette.
