Darkstar Skateboards – Heavy-Duty Performance and Dark Art Since 1997

Founded in 1997 by professional skateboarder Chet Thomas alongside his brother Matt Thomas, Darkstar Skateboards originated as a specialized, high-grade wheel brand before rapidly evolving into one of the most rugged hardgoods powerhouses of the 2000s street era. Recognized globally by its menacing armored knight logo, dark gothic aesthetic, and heavy metal iconography, Darkstar built its legacy around durability, high-impact riding, and no-nonsense performance.

Darkstar set itself apart early by assembling a stacked roster of powerhouse skaters capable of tackling massive stairs, gaps, and technical rails. Over the years, the brand was represented by heavy hitters such as Chet Thomas, Ryan Decenzo, Greg Lutzka, Dave Bachinsky, Cameo Wilson, Paul Machnau, and Gailea Momolu. Landmark video releases like Battalion (2003) and Autotelic (2019) put the team's raw capability on full display, solidifying Darkstar’s reputation for relentless, punishing street skating.

Technologically, Darkstar established a benchmark for deck durability and fracture resistance. Operating under the Dwindle Distribution umbrella, the brand integrated advanced skateboard engineering into its lineups, most notably single-deck press techniques with epoxy resin formulas (Resin-7 and Resin-8). Darkstar also pioneered the use of Armorlight and carbon-composite reinforcement technologies—such as carbon-fiber top-ply inserts and impact-dispersion discs—designed specifically to eliminate stress fractures and prevent snapped boards on heavy landings.
